The college aims to produce future leaders of the armed forces who possess strong academic and military skills. Admission: RIMC offers admission to boys aged between 11.5 and 13 years through a competitive entrance examination process. The selection process includes a written examination, viva voce (interview), and medical examination. Successful candidates are admitted to RIMC for a five-year course, divided into 10 semesters or terms. Academic Curriculum: RIMC follows a comprehensive academic curriculum that includes subjects like English, Mathematics, General Knowledge, Science, Social Studies, and Languages. The education provided at RIMC is designed to equip cadets with a solid academic foundation. Military Training: Alongside academics, RIMC focuses on military training to instill discipline, physical fitness, leadership, and a sense of camaraderie among cadets. Cadets undergo rigorous physical training, drill exercises, adventure activities, and exposure to military customs and traditions. Facilities: RIMC provides state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities to support the overall development of cadets. This includes well-equipped classrooms, libraries, laboratories, sports grounds, dormitories, and mess facilities. Alumni: RIMC boasts a proud alumni network comprising several distinguished personalities who have excelled in various fields, including the armed forces, politics, administration, sports, and entertainment. Many RIMC alumni have gone on to occupy prestigious positions in the Indian Armed Forces and other esteemed professions. Leadership and Values: RIMC places great emphasis on developing leadership qualities, integrity, and ethical values among its cadets. The college aims to mold young minds into responsible citizens who will contribute positively to society. Affiliation with NDA: RIMC serves as a feeder institution to the National Defence Academy (NDA). Cadets who successfully complete the RIMC course have the opportunity to join the NDA, which is a premier training institution for officers of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Highest Selection Rate: Among all other military schools, RIMC boasts of the highest selection rate for NDA. The average final selection rate is 82%.  

Admission Process

RIMC admits candidates only in Class 8th. The admission to RIMC involves written exam, viva voce (interview) and medical examination. Each term, 25 boys and 5 girls are selected for training. The admission to RIMC takes place twice in a year, in the month of January and July. Written exam for the same is held in the month of June and December of the previous year. Exam Format: The RIMC written exam is conducted in a pen-and-paper format for Mathematics and English and multiple-choice questions (MCQs) for general Knowledge. The difficulty level of the questions is between Class 7th and 8th. Subjects Covered: Three papers are held as under :-

English Paper: The English paper assesses the candidate’s grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills. It includes questions on topics such as synonyms, antonyms, sentence completion, sentence correction, comprehension passages/ poetry, and essay writing. Mathematics Paper: The Mathematics paper evaluates the candidate’s mathematical aptitude and problem-solving abilities. It covers topics such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, mensuration, and data interpretation and reasoning/ intelligence. General Knowledge Paper: The General Knowledge paper tests the candidate’s awareness of current affairs, history, geography, science, sports, and general knowledge. Syllabus and Preparation: The RIMC provides a detailed syllabus for each subject, outlining the topics and concepts to be covered. Candidates are advised to thoroughly study the prescribed syllabus and refer to relevant textbooks, study materials, and previous years’ question papers for comprehensive preparation.

English – 125 Marks

Section A: Reading Section
  1. Passage (15 marks) with simple questions
  2. Poem (10 marks) with simple questions and also based on vocabulary like synonyms, antonyms from the passage itself
Section B: Writing Section
  1. Email – 7 marks
  2. Article writing (about 120 words) – 10 marks
  3. Dialogue completion – 8 marks
  4. Letter (120 words) – 10 marks
  5. Picture writing (about 120 words) – 10 marks
Section C: Grammar
  1. Transformation of sentences like direct indirect, active passive, begin and end with instructions type – 10 marks
  2. Synonyms, same meaning different words like upset and sad – 5 Marks
  3. Homophones (similar sound different voice) like dear and deer – 5 marks
  4. Arranging parts of a sentence in proper order – 5 marks
  5. Correct form of verb – 10 marks
  6. One word substitution – 10 marks
  7. Spelling correction – 5 marks
  8. Articles – 5 marks
  9. Correction of sentences – 5 marks
  10. Idioms and phrases – 5 marks
  11. Conjunctions – 5 marks
  12. Prepositions – 5 marks

Recommended Books For RIMC
RIMC is a highly competitive exam. It is better to be thoroughly prepared. The basic books of class 7thand 8thof NCERT are a must. The English paper has questions on composition, unseen passages, letter writing and grammar. Besides the basic books on grammar and comprehension it is better to go through the commercially available question banks of last 10 years. GK paper includes Science and Social Studies of class 7th and 8th as also Current Affairs of that level. For this, the students must refer to the question bank of last 10 years as also keep themselves updated about the current happenings of at least last one year through newspapers and current affairs magazines.

Interview and Results of RIMC

Candidates who clear the Entrance Exam and figure in the merit list will be required to appear for interview (Viva Voce Test) in the month of October (January Term) & April (July Term). Intelligence and Personality of the candidates will be tested. Minimum pass marks for the interview are 50% (out of 50). Generally, the top 3 or 4 candidates in the written exam are called for the interview. It is conducted by a specially constituted Interview Board.
